Jonkershoek Panorama Hike
Long Epic Hike
We rate Jonkershoek Panorama Hike as the best day-hike in the Western Cape.
Jonkershoek Nature Reserve offers some of the best and most scenic mountain hiking in the Boland. The Panorama Trail starts out as a gradual, but long ascent, steepening towards a high neck overlooking a majestic mountain valley. From here the ascent continues to the high plato overlooking the entire Jonkershoek valley. After lunch break next to a mountain stream, we trace the the footpath all along the edge of the plato to where it starts descending towards Kurktrekkers Neck and more magnificent mountain views start opening up. The descent down the very steep Kurktrekker footpath is slow as the path is steep and quite degraded. Once at the bottom, we peer into the Tweede Waterval gorge and follow the trail back to Witbrug all along the edge of the beautiful Jonkershoek river.
