Scheduled Guided Group Hikes

A structured programme of enriching guided day hikes in the mountains around Cape Town. Hikes are categorized into 4 different difficulty levels, from 3 hours to full day treks. Start at the level where you are at and gradually build fitness and confidence in a sustainable way.

How to book your hikes - step by step:

STEP 1. Choose your level

  • Level 1. Short, gentle 3-4 hour beginner-friendly hikes

  • Level 2. Intermediate, adventurous 5-6 hour hikes

  • Level 3. Fast-paced, technical 3-4 hour summit hikes

  • Level 4. Long, advanced 7-9 hour treks

STEP 2. Choose a package

Find the Hike Packages and Tariffs by clicking on the HIKE DETAILS button of the relevant level and choose your package.

  • 1 hike only Full Price

  • 3 hikes at 15% discount

  • 6 hikes at 30 % discount

  • 12 hikes at 50% discount

STEP 3. Book your hike dates

Find the Hike Dates and Routes by clicking on the HIKE DETAILS button of the relevant level and choose your hike dates according to the package you chose.

  • Level 1 hikes run every 2nd Saturday from Sept to March

  • Level 2 hikes run every alt 2nd Saturday from Sept to June

  • Level 3 hikes run every Wednesday from Oct to March

  • Level 4 hikes run every 2nd Saturday from April to June

STEP 4. Payment & Itinerary

Complete the rest of the booking form & hike readiness questionaire (2 min) that you will find by clicking on the HIKE DETAILS button of the relevant level

  • Pay 50 % deposit upon invoice to secure your slots

  • Receive itinerary for the first hike upon deposit payment

  • Pay Balance no later than 24 hours before start of first hike

  • Receive a detailed itinerary of each hike the week in advance

Level 1 Hikes - AWAKEN SERIES - Short Gentle Hikes

Cape Town's most scenic 3-to-4-hour hikes on easier trails. Soak in the views, breathe fresh mountain air and reconnect with nature - perfect for beginners or to just unwind. There are 12 different routes in this category:

  • Hike Duration - 3 to 4 hours

  • Hike Grade - Gentle, Beginner-friendly

  • Hike Distance - 4.5 to 8 km

  • Elevation Gains/Drops - 150 to 450 m

A different Level 1 hike takes place every second Saturday September to March. Ideal as training hikes for the Cape of Good Hope Slackpack Hike.

Level 2 Hikes - NIMBLE SERIES - Intermediate Adventurous Hikes

Cape Town's top 5-to-6-hour adventurous hikes ideal for those craving a challenge yet cherish an immersive journey. Expect steeper climbs and breathtaking views. There are 12 different routes in this category:

  • Hike Duration - 5 to 7 hours

  • Hike Grade - Adventurous

  • Hike Distance - 7 to 12 km

  • Elevation Gains/Drops - 550 to 1000 m

A different Level 2 hike takes place every second Saturday from Sept to June. Ideal as training hikes for Cape Point to Cable Carand Groot Winterhoek

Level 3 Hikes - SUMMIT SERIES - Short Technical Summit Hikes

The pick of Cape Town's top short summit hikes! A burst of adventure packed into short but intense 2.5-to-3-hour climbs to rewarding summits. There are 6 different routes in this category:

  • Hike Duration - 2.5 to 3 hours

  • Hike Grade - Adventurous, fast-paced

  • Hike Distance - 4.5 to 6.5 km

  • Elevation Gains/Drops - 450 to 650 m

A different Level 3 hike takes place every Wed morning from Oct to March, ideal training for Cape Point to Cable Car and the Reunion Expedition.

Level 4 Hikes - UNTAME SERIES - Long Advanced Day Treks

Level 4 hikes are epic treks across Cape Town's wildest landscapes - where every step is a story, every climb a triumph, and every summit exhilarating. There are 6 different routes in this category:

  • Hike Duration - 7 to 11 hours

  • Hike Grade - Tough & Epic

  • Hike Distance - 12 to 20 km

  • Elevation Gains/Drops - 700 to 1250 m

A different Level 4 hike takes place every second Sat from April to June. Ideal as training hikes for Cape Point to Cable Car and Reunion Expedition.

Scheduled GROUP hikes include:

  • Registered hiking guide. An expert qualified and registered hiking guide leads each hike, managing the pace to ensure the group stays together and the hike doesn’t run over time. The guides provide context of the fynbos vegetation, geology and history of the trails, facilitate a deeper connection with nature and take care of every participant’s safety and wellbeing during the hike.

  • Variety and a regular routine. Each Level comprises 6 to 12 different unique, curated hikes, a different hike per Level occurring on a weekly or bi-weekly schedule, so you really get to know the mountains and enjoy different scenery every time.

  • Discounted hike packages for regular hiking. Hikes can be joined once-off on a drop-in basis, but the real value lies in booking 3-, 6- and 12-hike packages at discounted tariffs. Click on the BOOKING FORM links for tariffs.

  • Pre-planned and categorized routes. Each hike is curated, pre-planned and categorized according to the relevant Level. All the hikes are on mountain trails within 5 to 100 km from Cape Town.

  • Hike-readiness assessment. All participants’ hike readiness is assessed prior to the hike to ensure the hike matches their level of fitness and the rest of the group.

  • We keep within the set time duration. The pace of the hikes is managed to ensure the hike finishes within the set time duration.

  • Small groups. Group size is limited to 8 participants.

  • Detailed itinerary. Participants receive a detailed itinerary with route description, what to expect, what to bring etc. in advance.

  • Tea-break treats. Coffee/tea and a small complimentary snack.

  • Mountain Safety. Fully equipped First Aid Kit, Satellite Messenger Device and relevant Emergency Rescue Contact Numbers goes along with the guide on every hike.

Scheduled GROUP hikes exclude:

  • Transport. To and from start and end-point.

  • Access Permits. Access permits to all nature reserves are excluded from the tariffs and for participants’ own account.

  • Aerial Cable Way Tickets. Some hikes require access to the mountain via the Table Mountain Aerial Cable Way, the cost which are excluded from the tariffs and for participants own account.

  • Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden Tickets. Some hikes require access to the mountain via Kirstenbosch Botanical Garden, the cost which are excluded from the tariffs and for participants own account.

  • Any snacks and drinks not indicated in the itinerary. Participants are responsible to bring and carry their own water, lunch and snacks.

  • Hiking backpack and gear. Participants are responsible to bring and carry their own daypack with warm clothing, rain gear etc. as set out in the itinerary.

  • Hiking down Table Mountain. An additional fee is charged in the event the cable car is closed and we need to guide you safely down the mountain.
