Simonsberg Peak Bag
Medium-length Adventurous Hike
Short, steep and oh so sweet is this peak bag, wondrous fynbos and wide on-top-of-the-world 360-degree vistas.
Nothing beats the expansive views across the whole Boland and all its mountain ranges, Table Mountain and the Cape Peninsula in the distance when one reaches the summit of Simonsberg, 1390m above sea level. Simonsberg stands out as a solitary mountain rising out high above the Boland vineyards by which it is completely surrounded. Named after Simon van der Stel, the founder of the town Stellenbosch. Visible all the way from the Cape Peninsula, it’s prominent shape reminds one of a large sleeping giant, perhaps Simon himself?
